'India scores over China in drug discovery'

NEW DELHI: Rising research and development(R&D) initiatives in the pharma sector has made India a more mature place for drug discovery activities than China, says a report.

Further, the report prepared by US-based Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation noted that Indian companies are playing a strategic role in early drug discovery processes due to their vast experience in the field of generic drugs. India is regarded as a more mature venue for chemistry and drug discovery activities than China, the study titled 'The globalization of innovation: Pharmaceuticals, Can India and China cure the Global Pharmaceutical Market?' said.

Milgram plans dairy village in Idukki district

To process 500,000 litres milk a day.

Milgram, a Kerala-based milk and milk products marketing company, has proposed a project to produce and process 500,000 litres of milk a day. The company will set up a dairy village in Idukki district with 50,000 highly-productive cattle of foreign origin.

Anthrax Confirmed in India's Gujarat State

INDIA - Authorities in India's western Gujarat state began vaccinating cattle on Sunday after a sample from a dead cow tested positive for anthrax, news reports said. Seven cows have died over the past week in Bagdana village in Bhavnagar district of Gujarat, about 250 kilometres south of the state's main city Ahmedabad, PTI news agency reported.

‘DISEASE OUTBREAK'

The animal husbandry department has started investigating the outbreak of certain migratory and resident diseases in livestock, including the vaccinated lot. The outbreak is seen as a result of weather conditions that prevailed in the valley for quite some time.

Vietnam among Asia Pacific’s top five business destinations

Vietnam ranks third in a list of top destinations for business expansion in the Asia-Pacific region, according to a survey by a global real estate management firm.
In the Jones Lang LaSalle survey of firms in 15 Asia-Pacific economies, China topped the list of favored destinations, followed by India, Vietnam, the Philippines and Singapore.

Long-term solutions needed for Tra fish farming industry

VietNamNet Bridge - Over the past two months, the price of Tra fish – one of Vietnam’s major seafood exports – has fallen dramatically, causing a big worry for breeders in the Mekong River delta. Many fear that they will incur heavy losses during this year’s fishing season if they do not find a long-term solution.

To support breeders, the State Bank of Vietnam has recently asked commercial banks to continue providing capital for businesses to purchase the fish and extend the deadline for loan repayments.

$3m project to help develop VN co-ops

VietNamNet Bridge - France’s Technological Research and Exchange Group (GRET) yesterday teamed up with Viet Nam’s Ministry of Planning and Investment to help develop domestic co-operatives under a project named AID-Coop.
More than two million euros (US$3.25 million) will be pumped into the five-year project by the European Commission and France’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Vietnam sells 2 bln dong govt bond at auction

Vietnam's State Treasury has for the first time since late February been able to sell a tiny government bond worth VND2 billion ($121,100) at an auction, the Hanoi stock exchange said in a statement.
The July 2010 bond was sold at auction Friday to one bidder at an annual yield of 11 percent.
The State Treasury had sought to raise VND300 billion worth of two-year bonds to finance infrastructure projects.
